Born to Fran and Robert Malina, he was raised in New Rochelle, New York. His father was an attorney, investment banker and Broadway producer. Malina graduated from the Horace Mann School and Yale University with a B.A. in Theater. He is married to Melissa Merwin, a costume designer. He has two children with her.
Malina made his first professional appearance on Broadway as a part of Sorkin’s “A Few Good Men” in 1989. Malina made his first television appearance on Sorkin’s “Sports Night”, the series got cancelled after two seasons. He also played the main lead in “The West Wing” from 2002-2006. He has also starred in the TV series “Big Shots”. the show got cancelled after its first season.
He is also a co-creator and producer of Bravo’s cable TV series “Celebrity Poker Showdown”.
