This French-American film and television actor was born in France. At the age of 5, his parents got divorced, so he moved to America with his mother. He moved back to France until his high school, where he was brought up in a small town, in simple surroundings. After his high school to save himself from compulsory military training, he told his mother that he wanted to be an artist and moved to America. In Los Angeles, he attended an acting school after he was told he possessed acting talent, but actually he wanted to be a professional pool player. He is completely bilingual in English and French.

He made his acting debut in the French film “Un homme et deux femmes” (1991). His first big American movie was “The Pallbearer”. He has worked in movies like “The Myth of Fingerprints”, “Never Been Kissed” and “The Next Best Thing”.

He has featured on TV shows like “Ally McBeal” and “Friends”. He became most popular with his role in the series “Alias”. He has described his role in “Alias” as most close to his home. He plays ‘James Walker,’ in the series “Big Shots” the moral center of the drama. Most recently, Vartan starred opposite Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez in New Line Cinema’s summer blockbuster, “Monster-In-Law.”
